Excavation of an area 20m by 20m was undertaken after a pit was identified at this location during testing along the route of the M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. The pit measured 0.9m east–west by 0.88m by 0.1m deep and contained two fills. The upper fill consisted of brown silt with charcoal flecking. The lower fill was compact dark-brown silt with a high charcoal content. No additional features or finds were recovered during excavation to indicate the function or date of this pit. Post-excavation analysis of this site is still ongoing.
