Testing was carried out on the N6 Galway to Ballinasloe PPP scheme A024: Contract 2, Newford to Knocknadoula townlands. Site A024/2.23 in the townland of Carrowkeel had previously been identified as an area of higher archaeological potential based on the results of geophysical survey. Test-trenching of the specified area did not identify any features of archaeological significance.
