A test excavation was undertaken on 6 January 2005 at Feenagh, Co. Limerick. The site is scheduled for development as a small housing estate and is the first phase of an overall development plan for the village. The second phase involves the construction of a new sewage system and wastewater treatment plant, which has been relocated to avoid an enclosure (SMR 45:99) located in the townland of Cloonroosk.

The development site is located in the townland of Gortmore on the northern side of the village, to the rear of the Catholic church. A derelict building on the Main Street will be demolished to provide access to the new development. The assessment entailed the excavation of seven test-trenches. Five of these were placed along the long axis of each proposed house and the remainder were set out along the route of the driveway and across a green area in the middle of the proposed development. All topsoil was cleared to the natural boulder clay and no features or finds of archaeological significance were noted.
