Three test-trenches were excavated on a site in the environs of a country house at Jamesbrook, Midleton. No topsoil was evident in one trench. The trench contained a light mid-brown/orange stony subsoil throughout. In the other two trenches topsoil was evident to a depth of 0.4m, below which a light mid-brown/orange stony subsoil occurred.
