On a small plot of ground at the rear of the Royal Hotel, where it was proposed to erect office and retail accommodation, eight trenches were cut on partly disturbed ground. All were dug to the orange or grey gravel level, while no features or artefacts turned up. The development site is located within the medieval town of Roscommon and also along the route of an 18th-century avenue (SMR 39:43, 39:44).
