An assessment was carried out at Griffith Barracks, Griffith College, South Circular Road, Dublin 8. The proposed development site measures c. 200m by 50m. The development involves the demolition of the existing structures at the site and the construction of two student accommodation blocks, including basement areas.
The assessment identified the 19th-century office quarters associated with the original remand prison, built in 1813. These buildings were demolished between 1877 and 1893 on conversion of the prison to a barracks. All structural remains identified during testing date to the 19th century and are documented.
