Planning permission was granted for the demolition of buildings on this site and the subsequent construction of retail units, apartments and a restaurant. The site is within the zone of archaeological potential for the historic town of Mallow. Testing was carried out in advance of construction. Four trenches were excavated along the footprint of the proposed development. Overburden was removed to a depth of 0.5m and this lay directly on top of natural orange subsoil. No archaeological finds or levels were noted in the trenches.
