Monitoring was carried out in the town of Daingean, Co. Offaly, on 18 and 19 January 2001. The proposed development entails the construction of six two-storey semi-detached dwelling-houses and associated services and access road. The site, which is within the zone of archaeological potential for Daingean, as defined in the Urban Archaeological Survey of County Offaly, and fronts onto Main Street.

Excavations were carried out solely in the north-east sector of the site; the remainder of the proposed development involved no excavation. Topsoil and sod overlay a peaty clay. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted during the course of monitoring.
