Monitoring of topsoil-stripping associated with the initial phase of a housing development took place between 25 April and 11 May 2001 at Lisnenan. This phase of the development consisted of the construction of eleven houses and a number of access roads. The proposed development was on a steep west-facing slope in pasture with occasional rock outcrop, on the north-eastern outskirts of Letterkenny, Co. Donegal.

The area stripped for the housing development measured 90–214m north–south by 60–110m. The stratigraphy encountered consisted of topsoil above rubble, friable orange/brown natural subsoil and bedrock. The area of rubble found along the road at the west side of the site included modern rubbish, and was the remains of a house demolished in the 1960s. The artefacts recovered from the topsoil were several modern pottery sherds, five blackware sherds, modern glass fragments and one undecorated clay pipe bowl fragment.
