Testing was undertaken on the route of the Knock–Claremorris Bypass at the location of a possible fulacht fiadh. The test area measured 130m by 90m. A mechanical digger was used to strip the area of topsoil.

An isolated deposit of burnt material was identified. The burning consisted of a semicircular area of charcoal (1.8m by 0.4m by 0.05m thick) that was cut by a furrow. There were no archaeological finds or other associated features.

There was no trace of a fulacht fiadh in this area.
