Test-trenching and subsequent monitoring were carried out in advance of a residential development in the townland of Moycullen from 26 to 28 July 2000. The site was located north-east of Moycullen town and adjacent to a medieval church and graveyard (SMR 68:42). The church ruins were 16m x 6.6m and orientated east–west. They were surrounded by a D-shaped graveyard bounded by a modern stone wall. The enclosing wall was west of the residential site and 13m from the planned structure, so there was a strong possibility of uncovering related medieval archaeology. However, during test-trenching only occasional post-medieval ceramics and the remains of a field wall were revealed. Subsequent soil-stripping did not uncover any archaeological material.
