Five 19th-century warehouses on the site were surveyed and photographed in advance of their demolition. A site assessment consisting of two test-trenches was carried out on 16 November 1998. Both trenches were opened to a depth of 2m. Both were found to contain loose rubble fill. No finds or features of archaeological significance were noted.
