Archaeological testing of a proposed extension to a residential dwelling at Main Street, Termonfeckin, Co. Louth, was carried out on 22 May 1996. The site lies within the outer enclosure of the Early Christian monastery of St Fechin, just west of the present cemetery.
Excavation of the test-trenches revealed that the site was not archaeologically sensitive and the natural boulder clay was exposed very close to the surface. It would appear that the existing buildings were cut into the slope of the hill, thereby destroying any material which may originally have been present.
