Archaeological testing of a proposed new entrance for a golf-course at Carnbeg, Dundalk, was carried out in September 1996. The site is No. 728 in the Archaeological Survey of County Louth. The possible site of an earthwork is located immediately north-west of the proposed new entrance. Three test-trenches were excavated in the area to be disturbed, to the east of the possible henge monument; ground level had been substantially raised during the last 200 years here. No archaeological features were exposed in any of these trenches and pottery sherds were of a nineteenth-century date.
