A series of 25 trial-trenches were dug within an abandoned orchard prior to house construction. The orchard is adjacent to the site of the ‘Postern Gate’ as marked on the OS map; however, no archaeological features were found in this area. In the north-eastern corner of the site there was a series of broad, shallow ditches which contained post-medieval pottery at their lowest level.
