Predevelopment testing was carried out in the townland of Port, Co. Leitrim. Testing in many of the trenches revealed natural layers underlying topsoil. A number of angular stones, fired clay and charcoal inclusions extending east-west for a length of 2.2-2.3m and 0.8m in width was uncovered below the topsoil layer at ITM 595375 802945.
Two trenches were excavated to the south of Port Castle (LE027-065). In one of the trenches rubble was revealed consisting of uncut limestone.
