In April 1990 human remains were discovered during bulldozing operations on a farm at Rathbaun, near Ballymote, Co. Sligo.255 The bone was discovered at a depth of approximately 0.46m below ground level. The site was visited by GardaĆ from Ballymote station, who removed the bones to Sligo hospital, where they were identified as representing the remains of more than one individual. The landowner described the bones as being in a poor state of preservation and completely fragmented. There were no stones or slabs in the area that would have indicated the presence of a cist burial, and no associated artefacts were found in the area. The area was filled in after the remains were removed. The remains were reburied locally.
