As part of a planning application for a proposed development at No. 42 Ballydorn Road, Killinchy, the Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) requested that an archaeological evaluation be undertaken. This was due to the archaeological sensitivity of the area, with 52 recorded sites in the Northern Ireland Sites and Monuments Register within a 1km radius of the proposed development.
The proposed development concerns the construction of a farm dwelling on land on the shores of Strangford Lough. As part of an evaluation regime three test trenches, each measuring 20m in length, were mechanically excavated across the location of the proposed dwelling. This evaluation was conducted on June 26 2012. No archaeological deposits were uncovered within the test trenches.
