The site at Commons 1, Drogheda, was identified in December 2006 (Excavations 2007, No. 1181, 06E1126) during testing carried out on the route of the northern cross route and foul sewer in Field 68, Trenches 256, 261–262, 271–272 at Chainage 2945–2965.
The site served two functions: that of a cooking site associated with the burnt spread and settlement associated with the slot-trenches and post-holes. A large burnt spread, trough, two possible pits and a number of stake-holes were exposed to the west of a large pit. A second trough was also exposed to the east of the large pit. The remains of a small oval-shaped structure or hut were also exposed to the north-west.
