Archaeological mitigation was conducted on site as part of an overall proposal to improve public access to Mountdrum’s heritage sites. The project involved the construction of a carpark and improved access facilities including new paths, gates, signposts and information boards. As part of the project a subsurface water pipe had to be installed across part of the site. This involved the excavation of a single trench to accommodate the pipeline. An archaeologist was present to monitor all ground-penetrating works. No evidence of any archaeological deposits was identified.
Editor’s note: Although this licence was issued during 2004, the report on the work was not received in time for inclusion in the bulletin of that year.
