Monitoring of ground-reduction works was undertaken with respect to the redevelopment of No. 4 James Connolly Street, Cavan. The site is located within the designated zone of archaeological potential for the town. However, there are no known archaeological monuments situated in the general environs of the site.
The removal of existing foundations, floor slab and associated formation materials was monitored, below which was revealed the ‘natural’ clay marl subsoil. Nothing of archaeological interest was noted during the course of the works.
This development was carried out in tandem with that at 19–35 James Connolly Street and by the same developer. Consequently, a singe licence was granted to monitor both developments.
