Testing took place in advance of construction of a private dwelling. The proposed development site was located within the zone of archaeological potential for the ecclesiastical complex, which includes Ardmore Cathedral and round tower, being situated just 90m east of the site between two existing 20th-century houses.
Four test-trenches were opened by machine on the footprint of the planned dwelling. Two trenches contained evidence of imported topsoil, used to level the site, from which modern coal and brick fragments were recovered. No archaeological remains were recorded beneath this layer of topsoil. No archaeological features or artefacts were recorded during the course of the testing programme.
