Test-trenching was carried out in advance of the construction of a new apartment block and the refurbishment of a protected structure. The site is adjacent to the historic town of Ennis. Three trenches were excavated in the area of the apartment block on 7 November 2005. The trenches varied in length from 6.5m to 9m and were 1.5m wide. Three trial pits excavated by Irish Geotechnical Services Ltd for geological investigations were also monitored. The foundations and cobblestone surface of a probable mill structure that was extant on the site until at least 1921 were uncovered in the test-trenches. Nothing of an archaeological nature was noted during the testing.
