As part of a site assessment ahead of development, four small test-pits were cut by hand into the long yard behind 59 Main Street. The yard and associated outbuilding overlay garden soil over intact clay subsoil and infilled post-medieval clay pits. The site is outside the walled town and no medieval activity was represented.
