A medieval church (SMR 24:30) and graveyard stand to the north-east of the development site. Bradley identifies the church as that of the hospital of St Laurence, established c. 1206 (Bradley 117).
Five trenches tested the site. The area along the frontage of Chord Road might have been expected to produce material associated with the church or with the medieval hospital that existed there. No such material was observed.
