Over two days in August 1995 a proposed dwelling site north of the ruined church at Knockgraffon was trenched mechanically. Below the present, fallow, topsoil, a number of parallel linear features filled with an old soil represent medieval/early post-medieval cultivation. A number of pits, a ditch, two firespots, and traces of one or two wicker buildings suggest the edge of a settlement, potentially medieval. Decayed bone was noted in the features, but no pottery and no industrial waste were found.
