The monitoring of groundworks at Adare Manor, Adare, Co. Limerick was carried out. The groundworks associated with the construction of the transformer cabin and cabling trench connecting it with the photovoltaic panels were archaeologically monitored. Natural was not exposed.

An area was stripped of sod to a depth of between 0.2-0.3m and measured 11m by 4.5m with topsoil exposed and covered with aggregate. Subsequently, within the centre of this area, east to west aligned 1.5m wide trench was excavated to a depth of c. 1-1.1m below present ground level.

Topsoil (C1) measuring between 0.5 to 0.65m was removed onto the made ground (C3). The made ground had inclusions of large stones, a metal pipe, red bricks and lumps of tarmac throughout. The made ground (C3) removed measured between 0.45 to 0.6m.

The main cable trench was excavated along the eastern boundary of the site. The main cable trench measured 1-2m in width and was excavated to a depth of 0.6-1m, with each row of panels connected by a shallow and narrow, 0.4m wide and 0.2-0.35m deep trench. Modern rubbish, including plastic bottles, was noted in removed spoils.

Spoils removed were modern and examined for finds. No archaeological features or finds were encountered.
