The refurbishment of the 1780s Cow Sheds and Stables revealed part of a probably 17th-century watercourse as well as underlying medieval river deposits beneath the building. A number of features associated with the 1760s stables and drainage system in the lower yard were also revealed as were several new features in the 1780s Stables building. All in all, a better picture of the development of the site from the medieval period up to the early 20th century is now beginning to emerge
