Pre-development testing was undertaken in advance of the construction of a cattle underpass for ease of movement of livestock beneath a tertiary road (LA8504) in Kilnarovanagh townland near Macroom. The tunnel exits into a field on the south side of the public road where the site of a possible standing stone (CO083-005) is located.
A total of four mechanically excavated trenches were investigated to the level of the natural subsoil to an average depth of 0.51m. No features or finds of archaeological significance were exposed. Subsequent monitoring of removal of the remainder of the topsoil revealed no difference in the soil profile and nothing of archaeological significance was present.
