An impact assessment of a proposed house site at Rathcline, Lanesborough, Co. Longford, was undertaken on 21 April 2007 located within the zone of archaeological potential for LF017–009, Rathcline Castle. The assessment entailed the excavation of seven test-trenches on the location of the proposed house site. A pit was identified in Trench 4; no material was retrieved from the excavation of this pit which would enable a determination of a time frame or function. Given the location of this pit adjacent to the former site of Rathcline House’s stable blocks, it may have been associated with the activities of the 19th-century Rathcline House rather than with the late medieval remains of Rathcline Castle. No additional archaeological stratigraphy or artefacts were identified in the remaining test-trenches excavated during the course of the assessment.
