The site of the proposed development is located in the townland of Portanure. The site comprises a farmyard within and around the ruins of a castle, LF025–006. The area to be developed is to the south and west of the castle ruins. Five trenches were excavated across the site of the proposed development. All five measured 1.8m wide. Originally six trenches were proposed. The proposed Trench 2 was omitted, with Trench 1 having been extended to investigate the area to have been addressed by Trench 2 and to take in a possible garden wall indicated on the first-edition 6-inch OS map (1837). The excavation of all five test-trenches revealed no evidence of any below-ground archaeological activity on the site.
