An assessment was carried out in February 2007 as part of the programme of archaeological works on the route of the proposed M7 Portlaoise to Castletown/M8 Portlaoise to Cullahill motorway scheme. This assessment of Contract 3: Testing Area 6 involved the mechanical excavation of 34 trenches in Trumra townland where access was previously denied. The land comprised bog margin and bog for the most part and the testing resulted in an additional 1130 linear metres being excavated. Many of the trenches were excavated to depths in excess of 1.5m and due to safety restrictions some of the trenches were not bottomed. A series of field drains were exposed throughout the trenches but no archaeological features or finds were uncovered.
