Test-trenching associated with planning permission for a new bungalow and garage exposed part of a cluster of features associated with metalworking waste. The features comprised a narrow (0.35m) linear cut packed with cobbles, a pit or ditch terminal packed with cobbles, and a path strewn with cobbles and smaller stones. The site appears to be industrial, medieval or late prehistoric and lies c. 50m from two likely ringforts.
Small changes were made to the design of the development, and groundworks were monitored. An isolated patch of scorching exposed during topsoil removal may be associated with early land clearance, but a small group of features close to the known cluster are probably associated with them. The small group of features does not appear to be industrial, and may be planting remains.
