An archaeological impact assessment was undertaken in January on a terraced house and yard earmarked for refurbishment and building. The site is outside the medieval walled city, close to the site of the citadel, a 16th-century artillery fort. None of the upstanding fabric of the house pre-dated the late 18th century. In the four test-trenches construction activity associated with the terrace of houses overlay the truncated remains of a cultivation soil and suggestions of a quarry which might be associated with the artillery fort.
